“A long and winding road” … this aptly describes my journey to my current life coaching practice. After receiving my Master of Arts degree in Economics from Queen’s University, I began my career as an economic Policy Officer in the Federal Department of Finance. While there I met my (now) husband and moved back to Calgary, the place where I grew up and where I still had many friends and family members. In Calgary, I worked for an economic think tank (Canadian Energy Research Institute) as a researcher and then at Mount Royal University (then College); first in the President’s office and then as an Economics Professor.
When our first child was born, my husband and I decided that the best thing for the family would be for me to take some time off to be a full-time stay-at-home mom. My second son was born three years later. My time as a stay-at-home mom was one of the most physically and emotionally exhausting– and also the most happy and fulfilling – time of my life. I knew that being at home was the best choice for me and for our family, and yet I still felt that I was called to make another contribution to the world at large. I promised myself that I would devote 100% of my time and energy to our growing family until our youngest was in school. That time came and I began to consider my options.
One day, a friend came over. She was a lawyer who was a taking a sabbatical to become a coach – a what I wondered? As she proceeded to tell me about coaching and her coach training I began to feel every cell in my body vibrate with excitement. I knew from the deepest part of me that this is what I was meant to do. Without doing any research or investigation I submitted my application for coach training and was accepted a few weeks later. The rest, as they say, is history. In 2010, I became a Certified Professional Coach earned my first credential with the International Coaching Federation (ACC – Associate Certified Coach) and immediately started my Life Coaching Practice, Awakening Possibility Inc.
